UW POLICE MANAGEMENT CONTRACT RATIFICATION

CONTRACTS RATIFIED 9/28/17

WFSE members overwhelmingly ratified 2019-2021 contracts today when voting closed at 5pm.

The contracts wil be delivered to the Governor's office for processing (financial feasibility) and inclusion in Governor's 2019 Budget. Stay tuned in January for opportunities to help support lobbying efforts for funding our contracts.

SUMMARY OF TENTATIVE AGREEMENT

Summary of Tentative Agreement reached for the UW Police Management 2019-2021 collective bargaining agreement This summary highlights and explains the most significant provisions of the Tentative Agreement reached between the Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) the University of Washington Police Management on September 12, 2018. It does not cover every article or every provision.

MAJOR GOALS

Major goals achieved in tough economic times include:

  • Maintained 16.5 differential between the highest paid Patrol Officer and Sergeant
  • Maintained the 16.5 differential between the highest paid Sergeant and Lieutenant
  • Implemented a trial service period, performance issues have to be provided to the employee in writing, and is subject to the grievance process.
  • The University will provide protective footwear every two years.
  • Defended against compensatory time take away and agreed to language requiring compensatory time to be cashed out on June 30 of each year.
  • Defended against reduction to mandatory
  • Entered into a Memorandum of Understanding requiring a collaborative effort toward correcting problems with the scheduling process.

HIGHLIGHTS
OF THE NON-ECONOMIC GAINS IN 2019-2021 ARTICLES

Article 9 – Employee Rights 

  • Clarified Probationary Period 
  • Created a Trial Service Period, added written notification and eliminated language removing the ability for a member to file a grievance. 

Article 16 – Uniforms and Special Clothing 

  • The University agreed to pay for protective footwear every two years. 

Article 11 – Safety, Health and Uniforms 

  • Added University will make available non-slip footwear for Employees (Food Service Workers and Custodial Workers). Committees will determine four (4) types of footwear from any industry standard company. 

Article 18 – Hours of Work and Overtime 

  • Defended against effort to limit minimum overtime to recharge in relation to the four (4) hours per assignment 
  • Defended against mandatory shift rotation 

Article 20 –Compensatory Time 

  • Requires compensatory time cash out every June 30. 

Memorandum of Understanding 

  • Management and Labor agreed to work collaboratively toward solutions to the scheduling problems for Sergeants and Lieutenants.
